  • Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Knocks homer in loss

    Rotowire

Kelenic went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to Milwaukee.

Kelenic is 4-for-19 (.211) with two extra-base hits since the start of August. The outfielder has at least maintained steady playing time in center field following Atlanta's trade for Jorge Soler, but Kelenic has hit no higher than eighth over the last seven games. Atlanta hasn't faced a southpaw in that stretch either, so it's unclear if Kelenic is at risk of losing out on at-bats to Ramon Laureano. In any case, Kelenic's run as a lineup regular could come to a close once Michael Harris (hamstring) completes the rehab assignment he started Tuesday. For the season, Kelenic is sporting a .234/.288/.407 slash line with 13 homers, 34 RBI, 39 runs scored and six stolen bases over 366 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Drives in three in loss

    Rotowire

Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an RBI double, a walk and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to Milwaukee.

Riley has gone 15-for-40 (.375) with three homers and 10 RBI over his last 10 games. He twice gave Atlanta the lead Wednesday, but Milwaukee was able to offer a response each time. For the season, Riley is up to a .264/.331/.467 slash line with 16 homers, 50 RBI, 56 runs scored, 25 doubles and no stolen bases over 99 games.

  • Braves' Chris Sale: Rare short outing

    Rotowire

Sale allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out 10 over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus Milwaukee on Wednesday.

This was just the second time all year Sale has failed to finish five innings. It was also the first time in 10 starts he gave up more than two runs. He threw 62 of 96 pitches for strikes and reached double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time this year, but he simply wasn't very efficient against a challenging offense. Sale is now at a 2.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 165:30 K:BB through 127.2 innings over 21 starts this season. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is tentatively projected to be at San Francisco next week.

  • Braves' Eddie Rosario: Getting rare day off versus righty

    Rotowire

Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Atlanta is facing a right-handed starter (Freddy Peralta) for the ninth game in a row Wednesday, but the lefty-hitting Rosario will give way to the right-handed-hitting Adam Duvall for the first time during that stretch. Manager Brian Snitker might have just wanted to get Duvall some work to keep him sharp at the plate, but Rosario hasn't done much to justify maintaining a strong-side platoon role. Since joining Atlanta on July 8, Rosario is slashing .154/.181/.282 with a 27.4 percent strikeout rate.

  • Braves' Grant Holmes: Staying in rotation

    Rotowire

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Tuesday that Holmes will remain in the rotation as the club's No. 5 starter in the wake of Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) landing on the injured list, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports.

Though Lopez hadn't pitched since July 28, Atlanta had been holding out hope for a little over a week that the right-hander would avoid a stint on the IL before he was finally deactivated Monday. Holmes had already made starts in his last two appearances while Max Fried (forearm) was on the shelf, and though Fried has since been activated, Lopez's absence will extend Holmes' run in the rotation. Since receiving his first MLB call-up in mid-June, Holmes has compiled a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB in 33 innings over 12 appearances. Despite his quality numbers between the bullpen and rotation, Holmes doesn't profile as an appealing streaming option for his next start, which is expected to fall this weekend against the Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

  • Braves' Bryce Elder: Sent back to minors

    Rotowire

Atlanta optioned Elder to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The transaction comes one day after Elder was rocked for seven runs over just 3.2 frames in a loss to the Brewers. Elder has posted a 6.52 ERA and 1.63 WHIP through 49.2 innings in the majors this season.

  • Braves' Dylan Dodd: Back with big club

    Rotowire

Atlanta recalled Dodd from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Dodd will provide length in the bullpen after Bryce Elder had an abbreviated start Tuesday against the Brewers. The left-handed Dodd was up briefly with Atlanta last month but didn't make an appearance. He holds a 4.85 ERA and 82:28 K:BB over 91 innings this season at Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Bryce Elder: Headed back to Gwinnett

    Rotowire

Atlanta will option Elder to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Elder had a tough time keeping the Brewers off the scoreboard during his spot start Tuesday, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters in 3.2 innings. He now owns a 6.52 ERA and 1.63 WHIP through 49.2 innings in the majors this year, and his demotion to Triple-A could allow Grant Holmes to stick around in Atlanta's rotation until Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) is able to return from the injured list.

  • Willy Adames hits a pair of 2-run homers to help the Brewers rout the Braves 10-0

    Stats

  • Braves' Reynaldo Lopez: Resumes throwing

    Rotowire

Lopez (forearm) began playing catch Tuesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Lopez exited his start July 28 with forearm tightness and Atlanta was hopeful that the injury wouldn't require an IL stay. However, Lopez was officially placed on the injured list Monday. Still, he was able to resume his throwing program Tuesday, an encouraging sign for the 30-year-old, who'll be eligible for reinstatement Aug. 17.

  • Braves' Sean Murphy: Taking seat Tuesday

    Rotowire

Murphy is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.

Murphy has continued to split time behind the plate with Travis d'Arnaud, and he'll yield to d'Arnaud for Tuesday's series opener. Murphy is 5-for-16 with a solo homer in his last five games.

  • Braves' Michael Harris: Set to begin rehab assignment

    Rotowire

Harris (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Harris is finally ready for game action after being sidelined for nearly two months with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. The center fielder is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list Aug. 14, and the expectation is he'll be ready to join Atlanta on that date.

  • Braves' Bryce Elder: Called up, will start Tuesday

    Rotowire

Atlanta recalled Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

He'll join Atlanta's 26-man active roster as a replacement for right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (forearm), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. According to Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Elder will also take over Lopez's spot in the rotation, as he's scheduled to start Tuesday in the first game of Atlanta's home series versus Milwaukee. Elder has previously made nine starts for the big club this season, delivering a 5.67 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across 46 innings.

  • Braves' Reynaldo Lopez: Goes on IL with forearm swelling

    Rotowire

Atlanta placed Lopez on the 15-day injured list Monday with right forearm inflammation.

Atlanta had been hoping that Lopez would miss just one turn through the rotation after an MRI revealed no structural damage to his forearm, but the right-hander wasn't progressing as quickly as expected, as he hadn't thrown off a mound since exiting his last start July 28. The club will now give Lopez some extra time to heal up, and since his placement on the IL is backdated to this past Friday, he'll be eligible for activation as soon as Aug. 17. Atlanta called up Bryce Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move, and he'll step into Lopez's spot in the rotation and start Tuesday's game against the Brewers.

  • Cabrera's 5 strong innings and Bride's 3-run homer send Marlins past Braves 7-0

    Stats

  • Braves' Max Fried: Roughed up in loss

    Rotowire

Fried (7-6) took the loss Sunday against Miami, allowing five earned runs on four hits and five walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out six.

Fried (elbow) made his first start since July 11 and showed clear signs of rust, issuing five free passes and yielding five earned runs to a mediocre Marlins offense. The 30-year-old still owns a strong 3.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 101:39 K:BB across 111 innings this season, but it could take him a few outings to find his groove, especially with a road start in Coors Field looming next weekend.
